Cantata for Flesh and Code

2027 · Opera

A cantata for countertenor, organ, electronics and a synthetic voice, premiering in 2027.

The countertenor is a voice that has always sat outside easy categories — neither one register nor another, historically produced by force or by training. Setting it against a generated voice asks what is actually at stake when a machine sings: what it can imitate, what it cannot, and why the difference matters to a listener.

Developed alongside Nobody’s Business, a podcast on the hidden economics of professional artistic life.
