Airport society

Kasia Glowicka and Krystian Lada’s collaboration within the Airport Society has produced a rich and multifaceted body of work that combines musical innovation with socially engaged storytelling, often through iterative, layered creative processes. Their partnership began with the project “The Container” in 2011, an experimental multimedia opera that highlighted Glowicka’s distinct approach to blending traditional and electronic sounds with live visuals. This marked the start of their shared commitment to exploring complex narratives through avant-garde music and immersive staging.
In 2015, the two created Requiem for an Icon, an opera reflecting on Jackie Kennedy’s life. Glowicka’s minimalist, yet emotionally resonant music underscored Lada’s brave and meticulous direction, which presented Kennedy’s life through a series of symbolic and poignant scenes. The work combined powerful operatic voices with electronics, a hallmark of Glowicka’s style, which added both a timeless and modern edge to the narrative. Their iterative approach allowed them to refine each layer of the piece, ensuring that the music and staging were intricately synchronized to evoke the complexities of Kennedy’s iconic status.
In Aria di Potenza (2017), the duo explored the themes of political and personal power, using operatic arias recontextualized to reflect contemporary social issues. Lada’s innovative staging paired with Glowicka’s electronics-infused compositions, grounding the historical arias in a modern soundscape.
Their most recent project, Afterparty (2024), furthers this evolution with a blend of spoken word, poetry, and music, combining Glowicka’s compositions with Lada’s theatrical direction. This ongoing collaboration, characterized by its adaptability and iterative method, underscores their shared commitment to pushing the boundaries of opera and multimedia performance to engage deeply with modern themes and reach diverse audiences.
Through their work, Glowicka and Lada have built a signature style within the Airport Society that merges operatic tradition with cutting-edge technology and socially resonant themes, culminating in a unique and powerful form of storytelling that continues to evolve with each new project.
