Awarded the Special Prize at the BMW!Crash International Competition in Szczecin, Poland, 2007, Exophony invites listeners into a unique sonic experience. Imagine an orchestra that begins to move, vibrate, and encircle you, building a world of immersive sound. This piece leverages electronically processed and synthesized orchestral sounds to form a sonic “wall” that fully surrounds the listener via an eight-speaker setup, creating a dynamic, evolving sound environment.

In Exophony, the listener is positioned at the heart of the sound field, as chords shift and pulse, drawing closer and then retreating, evoking a sense of motion and spatial depth. These sound elements, meticulously crafted through algorithmic composition with the assistance of the AC Toolbox, reveal the piece’s intricate construction and immersive power.

Exophony is dedicated to Paul Berg, whose insights and innovations in algorithmic composition played a key role in its realization.
